Drop-In Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Get answers to common questions about drop-in training at Journey BJJ Academy in Madison

What's the vibe like? What's the culture?

Overall, we’re not running a strict dojo where you need a manual on when to bow or ask for permission to go to the bathroom - haha. It's a pretty laid back vibe hat focuses on learning and camaraderie more than ceremony. So if you’re looking for a school where you can just train hard, respect each other without a bunch of ritual theater, and have a good time, you’re in the right spot.

Am I going to get to roll?

Most structured classes provide at least 4 rounds of positional training and rolling per class.

Where are you located?

3214 Kingsley Way. Madison, WI 53713

What should I wear to drop-in classes?

For gi classes, you'll need a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi (uniform) in good repair with no competitor branding. For no-gi classes, wear tight-fitting shorts with no zippers or pockets, and a fitted t-shirt or rashguard. All clothing must be clean and odor-free.

How much does a drop-in class cost?

Drop-in classes are $25 per session. You'll also need to complete a waiver before your first class. We accept both cash and card payments.

What should I bring to class?

Bring flip flops (often forgotten!), a water bottle, and a positive attitude. Arrive 10 minutes prior to class (5 minutes for morning classes).

Do you want to know my experience level?

Yes, please text us in advance and let us know so we might recommend the best classes for your visit.

What are the hygiene requirements?

You must be fresh and clean for every class. This means showering before training, wearing clean clothes, and maintaining good personal hygiene. Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed short to prevent injuries. Piercings and jewelry should be removed or taped up.

Can I drop in to any adult class?

Depends on your belt rank. But mostly yes, you can drop in to any regular adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class. Check our current schedule for class times. Both gi and no-gi classes are available for drop-ins.
